Position Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Urban Designer to work as part of our City Design studio in Kansas City. In this role you will have the opportunity to apply critical thinking and problem solving to the planning and urban design challenges of the built environment, within the varied scales of the city. You will develop a thorough understanding of our Studio's design philosophy and values, preparing analysis, mapping, illustrations, and documents for presentation to clients. You will have opportunities to work on a variety of planning and design projects and across all phases, while engaging communities and clients.
We are Seeking Candidates with:
- A professional degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or similar degree from an accredited program.
- 0 to 3 years of experience.
- Passion for urbanism and city building.
- Intellectual curiosity and design abilities to support a growing and evolving design studio and affect the quality of communities.
- Strong analytical skills, comprehension of urban design principles, and an aptitude for multitasking and problem solving.
- Ability to contribute to the analysis, visioning, strategies, and preparation of innovative planning and design solutions including policies, strategies, design, and regulatory documents.
- Familiarity with GIS, Google Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat), to illustrate (maps, conceptual designs and renderings) in a variety of graphic media.
- Excellent writing skills, and the use of Microsoft Office.
- Effective, clear communication skills - written, verbal, and presentation.
