A day in the life:

  • Manage and carry out the Traffic Monitoring Program activities for ODOT's manual classification count, continuous counting and coverage count programs.
  • Review Vendor Purchase Agreements (PAs), create work order contracts for traffic counts and manage traffic counting program contracts and special projects.
  • Provide traffic data for the Highway Performance Monitoring System program.
  • Coordinate Traffic Monitoring program activities with region staff.
  • Manage the preparation of the annual Transportation Volume Tables, Traffic Flow Map, GIS data, State Highway Vehicle Miles Traveled Report and the monthly Selected Transportation Trends Report.
  • Provide traffic data to support other programs.
  • Check, interpret and approve the validity of field traffic data.
  • Provides written and oral communication and represents the Traffic Monitoring Program in meetings and technical advisory committees.
  • Work in an office environment with hybrid work options available. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Some bending, stooping and climbing ladders may be required.

Minimum qualifications:

Five (5) years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. One (1) year of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments.

OR

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering AND two (2) years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of engineering principals, with the ability to understand transportation-related datasets.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze large datasets using tools such as Excel to identify trends and provide reports that support decision making.
  • Demonstrate experience leading and communicating (verbally and written) to coordinate and implement Program activities.
  • Demonstrate experience developing and providing technical data for complex engineering designs and studies.
  • Demonstrate skill balancing competing priorities and organizing workload.
