Solar Energy

The city's code of ordinances includes a list of solar-related definitions and standards for a variety of solar system types. It provides an article on Solar Systems, which includes a list of solar-related definitions (§122-623) and standards for accessory ground-mounted, roof-mounted, building-integrated, and wall-mounted systems (§122-626.a).

The code of ordinances also includes standards for principal-use solar systems, which are only permitted in industrial districts and require special use approval; a financial surety for 125% of the costs of system removal and disposal is required (§122-626.b). It specifically addresses solar systems located in historic districts; approval from the Historic District is required and design standards minimize the visibility of systems from public streets (§122-625).
