Solar Energy

The town's zoning by-laws establish a Large-Scale Ground-Mounted Solar Photovoltaic Installation Overlay District (SPOD) with expedited permitting. The Solar Photovoltaic Installation Overlay District (SPOD) (§9.7), has an expedited permitting of one year maximum. It establishes general requirements for all systems, including required proposal documentation, dimension and density requirements, design standards, safety and environmental standards, monitoring and maintenance requirements, and abandonment and decommissioning requirements.

The zoning by-laws also provides an extensive definitions section for large-scale ground mounted solar photovoltaic overlay district, which specifies that this use is permitted as of right in a SPOD (§11.0).

Solar panels are exempted from district height requirements along with other rooftop appurtenances (§4.3.3 et al.).
