The city's municipal code permits accessory second dwelling units by right in multiple residential districts, subject to use-specific standards (§19.58.022). These standards address definitions, unit size, structure relationships, development standard exceptions, lot coverage, access and parking, existing nonconformities, utilities, waste and recycling, design standards, designated historical sites, inspections, owner occupancy, land use agreements, and annual reports.

Housing Supply Planning

The city's municipal code encourages increasing housing options for all residents by permitting accessory second dwelling units by right in multiple residential districts, subject to use-specific standards (§19.58.022). The code also includes inclusionary housing to provide affordable options to lower income households (§19.91).

Solar Energy

The city's municipal code states that to receive a building permit, residential units must have solar water heater preplumbing and solar photovoltaic prewiring, but provides for waivers if necessary (§20.04.030, §20.04.040).
