Solar Energy

The city's municipal code encourages solar siting and solar access protections and allows for solar farms in certain districts. It permits solar farms as conditional uses in agriculture and the manufacturing of solar products in heavy industry districts (§18.04.A.U, §18.16.020.B.11).

Design standards encourage solar siting, solar energy system use for single-family dwellings, duplexes and secondary living units design standards (§18.23.170.H, §18.23.170.I).

Conservation Regulations encourage subdivision design maximizing southern exposure for solar heating, and siting of structures and vegetation so as not to block solar access to adjacent properties (§18.36.020.B.1). Solar energy systems may not be prohibited in subdivisions, apartments, or condos (§18.36.020.B.4).
