Solar Energy

The town's code states that solar installation cannot be denied in historic areas with exceptions. In the Historic Areas chapter, it notes that no application for a certificate of appropriateness for an exterior feature, including solar energy systems, shall be denied unless the Historic Commission finds it will substantially impair the historic character and appearance of the district; such COAs may require design modifications and location limitations that do not impair the system's effectiveness (§111-10; §111-26).
