Solar Energy

The Village Code includes a chapter on Solar Energy Systems (Chap. 415). It defines "accessory solar energy system" and "building-integrated solar system" (Sec. 415-1) and provides standards for accessory solar energy systems (Sec. 415-2). The code allows solar energy systems as permitted accessory uses in all residential districts, subject to standards addressing height, setback/location, visibility, approved components/installers, safety signage, and decommissioning. It provides for the development of a fast-track permitting system, with a permit fee set at $50. The code includes a design guidelines attachment that illustrates allowable panel placement for pitched and flat roofs (415 Attachment 1).
