Solar Energy

The city's land use and development code addresses solar and the following: yard requirements (Sec. 16-3-230.h.5), height limitation exemptions (Sec. 16-3-250.b). PUD review criteria include energy efficiency measures, including requiring solar orientation for buildings and lots or incorporating solar or geothermal power systems (Sec.16-3-640.5). The code also discusses solar access easements on preliminary subdivision plans (Sec. 16-18-230). Site design standards in Historic Core sub-district include preferences for solar lighting, passive solar strategies (landscaping), passive solar strategies with trees (use and improvement of ROW), solar panels and water heaters integrated with roofs and architecture, fenestration oriented for solar gain, active solar windows, and solar panels integrated with parking lot light poles (sustainability); it discourages wall-mounted solar panels facing a street (Sec. 16-6-170.b.14)
