Solar Energy

The county's zoning ordinance provides several definitions for solar-related terms (Sec. 30-28.C). The ordinance includes a section on solar energy systems that permits them in any district with necessary permits and compliance with use and design standards (Sec. 30-100-13). Systems are limited to producing power for on-site use, though net metering is permitted. Associated mechanical equipment must be screened from adjacent properties, and glare is prohibited. Abandoned systems must be removed by the owner. Roof-mounted systems may not exceed district building heights, and may not extend more than 3 feet above the roof or at all beyond the edge of the roof. Ground- or pole-mounted systems are limited to 15 feet in height and are limited to the lesser of 10 percent of allowable lot coverage or 1,000 square feet.
