Solar Energy

The county's zoning ordinance allows primary use Solar Energy Generating Systems as special exception uses in agricultural, environmental conservation, preservation, and industrial mineral districts (Table 3.3.1.R). The ordinance allows accessory Solar Collection Systems in all zoning districts subject to standards, including system size limitations in certain districts. Solar easements must be negotiated with neighboring property owners and recorded with the city (§4.25). The ordinance also provides design standards for Solar Energy Generating Systems (SEGS), including minimum lot size of 20 acres and required buffer areas (§4.26.A), and addresses SEGS in airport districts, but limits them to PV systems only and requires FAA review (§4.26.B) The code provides definitions for these terms (§28A.0).
