Grayfields Reuse and Redevelopment
The city's code of ordinances requires that occupants of retail or commercial service buildings with 50,000 square feet or more must not limit the type of reuse for the building in the event that they vacate. For buildings 20,000 square feet or greater the building owner must provide the city with contact information of all people in control of the property (§19.485.040.D.16).
Solar Energy
In the city's zoning ordinance, standards for large retail and commercial service development (projects over 20,000 SF) impose additional requirements on these developments: they must incorporate at least half of 14 listed sustainability features, including integrating solar energy systems into project design or providing a minimum of 50 percent of the development's energy from renewable sources (§19.485.040.E.16). Part of the plan review process includes consideration of the site's effect on the sunlight or "solar access" of (§19.63.100).

The city’s business licensing code establishes a permitting process for parklets and parklet cafes (§5.16). Permitting standards address purpose; definitions; permit requirements; application requirements; permit fees; locational, design, construction, and operations standards; alcohol licensing and service; liability and insurance; permit revocation or suspension; appeals; and penalties.
