The city's subdivision regulations require lot layouts to address solar access (Sec. 17.40.020.2.c). The city's planning and zoning regulations permit rooftop and ground-mounted accessory solar energy systems (100 KW or less) by right in all zoning districts subject to specific development standards (Sec. 18.28.030.6). These regulations permit rooftop and ground-mounted accessory solar energy systems (greater than 100 kW) as special uses in all zoning districts subject to specific development standards (Sec. 18.28.040.9). These regulations also encourage trees and planting locations that facilitate passive solar gain (Sec. 18.40.221.2). These regulations also offer sustainable design points for solar design and for solar installations (Sec. 18.40.350). All development (other than single-family and two-family residences) must obtain a minimum number of sustainable design points to qualify for project approval.
