Solar Energy

Ketchum's new comprehensive plan is focused on sustainability, with a part of that being promoting the use of regionally-generated alternative energy sources (p. iv). The plan sets 10 core values; "A Greener Community" calls for the integration of best practices in renewable energy use, among other practices (p. 12). In the Community Design and Neighborhoods chapter, Policy CD-2.5 calls for energy and water efficiency in new development through promoting the siting and use of renewable energy and other practices (p. 27). In the Natural Resource Stewardship chapter, Policy NR6.2 calls for energy alternatives through the implementation of policies and programs that enhance opportunities to convert to renewable resources; Policy NR6.4 calls for promoting energy conservation features in new construction (p. 31). In the Public Safety and Utilities chapter, Policy PSU-2.2 calls for exploring the use of renewable energy options to provide diversity in primary and back-up energy sources for the community (p. 53). In the Community Health and Wellness chapter, Policy CHW-6.1 calls for reducing air emissions through several strategies, including supporting renewable energy sources (p. 57). Appendix A, the Community Profile, includes a section on Aspect and Solar Access, noting that a large percentage of land could take advantage of solar gain (p. A-44). The plan includes a solar access map of south-facing areas within the city (p. A-53).
