Solar Energy

The city's planning and zoning code exempts the following from design review procedures: the complete demolition and/or removal of solar panels and equipment, solar tubes no more than 24 inches in diameter not visible from the street, and solar panels (Sec. 8.72.030). The city adopted the county's subdivision regulations and added a section on solar orientation requiring each subdivision application to describe the allowable shape and height of an envelope zone for structures and evergreen vegetation designed to minimize adjacent property wintertime shading; these restructions are to be included with the property deed and can be included as easements or covenants that run with the property (Sec. 94-2.210).
