The city's zoning regulations include a brief section on solar energy development standards focusing on aesthetics: roof-mounted systems are to be placed in the most obscure reasonable location and wall- and ground-mounted systems are to be screened from public view; roof-mounted collectors should be installed flush to the roof; appurtenant equipment should be installed in the attic; and exterior surfaces of equipment should have a matte finish and be color-coordinated with roof materials and structure colors (Sec. 9.20.015.s).

The code's landscaping standards provide that trees and shrubs should be planted so that at maturity they do not interfere with the solar access rights of adjacent property owners with solar energy systems (Sec. 9.27.015.e.4).
