Environmentally Sensitive Areas
The city’s zoning code protects environmentally sensitive habitat areas through a sensitive habitat overlay zone. Environmentally sensitive habitats include streams, rivers, water bodies, wetlands, sensitive habitats, and substantial vegetation types. Developments within this zone are required to comply with special standards, follow special procedures, and incorporate buffer requirements (§24.325.050 et seq.).
Solar Energy
The city's zoning code includes a development code for the UC Hansen Trust Specific Plan, which has an architectural design section on sustainable design opportunities that offers recommendations to be considered during project design, including passive solar design and designing buildings to accommodate renewable energy systems as they become cost-effective (Sec. 24H.208.6).
