The county's land use and development code includes a section of supplementary development standards for solar panels (Sec. 16.21.42). Flush-mounted roof solar panels are a permitted use in any zone; "structured" roof panels (not flush with the roof) are conditional uses in any zone; and freestanding solar panels are a permitted use in residential districts but must comply with height, maximum area, and setback requirements. A building permit is required for installation.

In the Deer Valley Lakeside Resort Specially Planned Area, architectural guidelines strongly encourage environmentally friendly building design, including the use of solar energy and optimal solar orientation (Sec. 16.41.06.C).
