The city's municipal code includes a chapter on alternative energy systems with a section on solar energy systems and structures (Chap. 61). Solar energy systems are permitted within all zoning districts according to standards, which address setbacks, height, building code compliance, glare, and visibility (Sec. 61-13). Free-standing systems and roof systems that project more than 12" above the roof require conditional use approval (Sec. 61-14). The code describes solar application procedures (Sec. 61-15) and offers detailed design guidelines with illustration for solar panel placement on residential rooftops (Sec. 61-16).

The city's zoning code states that solar energy systems are permitted in all zoning districts (Sec. 62-556).

The zoning code also states that inadequate access to direct sunlight for solar energy systems is considered a practical difficulty in the context of variances (Sec. 62-144).

The city's subdivision regulations note that lot layouts should take into consideration the potential use of solar energy design features (Sec. 52-133).
