The city's subdivision regulations briefly address solar; block design requires due regard of several criteria, including orientation of lots allowing for increased solar access (Sec. 20-74.A.4).

The city's zoning ordinance lists solar collectors as permitted accessory uses in all residential districts (Sec. 24-10.D et al.).

The zoning ordinance also includes a section on Solar Rights and Access (Sec. 24-32). The purpose statement notes that solar collectors are established as permitted uses in all zoning districts. The section defines "solar collector" and "solar right" among other terms. It prohibits buildings or vegetation that shades a solar collector by a defined amount; structures or vegetation that existed prior to the solar collector's installation are exempt. A solar use permit is required to obtain protection of solar rights; the code provides permit application and review requirements.
