Green Stormwater Infrastructure
The city’s municipal code presents requirements for using low-impact development (LID) tactics for all new development and select redevelopment projects. It requires impervious surface area on no less than 50% of exterior surfaces (§8.44.095.C) and promotes specific measures for new hillside development (§8.44.095.F.3). The municipal code lists multiple types of applicable redevelopment projects with over 5,000 square feet of impervious surface area (§8.44.095.A) and highlights the applicability of road construction for green street tactics (§8.44.095.E).
Solar Energy
The city's zoning regulations provide definitions and development standards for the installation of accessory solar energy systems (Sec. 17.46.220). Standards allow systems to exceed height limitations and also address design integration, emergency roof access, screening, wind resistance, and maintenance. Other standards may be modified by the director if they reduce system performance.
For Plan Area No. 11, development standards address solar orientation (Sec. 17.38.550.H.4). Projects requiring precise development plans must incorporate solar-oriented design and orientation to facilitate active and passive solar use, and small projects are encouraged to also be designed in this way. Green building standards are also encouraged in this plan area, including the installation of solar PV or hot water systems )(ec. 17.38.550.P.4).
