This guide is a stand-alone companion to Hawaii’s Statewide Pedestrian Master Plan. It offers design, operations, and education guidance, in the context of planning for Hawaii. Chapter 9, “Special Pedestrian Districts and Site Design for Pedestrians” addresses design for pedestrian-oriented districts. The recommendations span from pedestrian facility design specifications, to on-site recommendations, to block and district-level interventions. The guidelines are illustrated with both renderings and photographic examples from around the country.
