This briefing paper discusses universal design and visitability features as important aspects of an age-friendly community. It defines these concepts, discusses their importance, and considers strategies that state and local governments can use to encourage these practices, including voluntary and incentive-based programs. There is also a case study of a visitability ordinance from Bolingbrook, Illinois.
