Design Review
The city's zoning code addresses design review (§106.62.040). A table lists different types of nonresidential and residential projects and which review authority (director or commission) is applicable. The code lists conditions of approval for design review, including compliance with design standards provided in Chapter 106.31 of the code. The code provides separate guidelines for residential, commercial, and industrial project design, as well as additional design guidelines for large-scale retail and retail center design and several specific commercial uses.
Outdoor Lighting
The city’s zoning code includes a chapter on outdoor lighting (§106.35.010 et seq.). It intends to prevent nuisances of light intensity, glare, and light trespass, protect the night sky, and conserve energy. The ordinances applies to all new nonresidential and multiunit residential uses. It provides general light design and development standards to prevent nuisances. The ordinance describes when preliminary and final lighting plans are required and lists plan contents. Additional standards address recommendations for energy conservation.
