These guidelines for the downtown and traditional residential areas of the city were developed through a community-based process. The guide introduces the urban design framework and six principles, and its relationship to existing planning policies. For the downtown core commercial and mixed use areas, it offers design context, design guidelines (site design, building design, outdoor spaces, signs and lighting), and information on special character areas. For traditional residential neighborhoods, it addresses site design, primary building scale and form, and secondary structures. An appendix details the design review process and submittal requirements, and provides a checklist and glossary. The guidelines are extensively illustrated and formatted in a user-friendly style.
