The city's architectural standards manual replaced the prior design manual in 2016 to free the design review process from subjectivity and confusing application requirements. The standards set minimum standards for the design and construction of development within the city and are not meant to limit creativity. An administrative design review process requires adherence to the standards, and design standard exception requests allow for alternative, creative design proposals. The guidelines address nonresidential and residential development; the former section addresses cohesive design, building scale, building form, architectural elements, materials, and signs & lighting, and the latter section addresses cohesive design, building form, architectural elements, and lighting.
