The city’s zoning code contains a chapter on Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) (Chapter 3320). The Purpose and Principles of this chapter clarify the connection between TND and community development, including pedestrian activity. A TND community can include one or more zoning district (neighborhood edge district, neighborhood general district, neighborhood center district, and town center district), each with its own design standards. Design standards for thoroughfares, civic spaces and civic buildings, private buildings, and natural and historic resources are broken down into general, mandatory, and desired elements.
