Transit-Oriented Development

The city’s zoning code includes a mapped, form-based transit-oriented development (TOD) code for two commuter rail station areas (§118-561 et seq.). The vision for the Smithfield Station Area is a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use neighborhood. The vision for the Iron Horse Station Area is a pedestrian-friendly regional employment center with residential and regional retail uses. The TOD code includes regulating plans, permitted uses, building form and development standards, street and streetscape design standards, architectural standards and guidelines, signage, civic/open space standards, and administration.
