Built Environment and Health

The county’s Healthy Development Ordinance updated the county’s zoning code to promote healthy development. The ordinance amended the following sections of the county code: §21.16.015, §21.24.065, §21.24.090, §21.24.210, §21.24.380, §21.32.070, §21.32.160, §21.32.180, §21.32.190, §21.32.195, §21.40.040, §21.48.040, and §22.20.070. Changes include adding language to promote active transportation and recreation or to increase access to healthy food via farmers’ markets and community gardens.

Food Systems | Food trucks

The county’s consumer protection, business and wage regulations code defines numerous motorized and non-motorized food service units as retail food vehicles (§8.04.200) and requires public health licensing. 

Scenic View Protection

The county’s zoning code protects views to the harbor through view corridors protection in Marina Del Rey. It specifies features that must be visible to pedestrians and passing motorists from public roadways, including a bulkhead edge, masts, and the horizon. View corridor requirements preserve a minimum of 20 percent of the water frontage of the site. It includes restrictions on building heights based on land use categories (§22.46.1060).

Urban Heat Resilience

The county’s green building standards code addresses urban heat. It requires the use of roofing materials with solar reflectance and thermal emittance to reduce the effects of urban heat islands (§4.106.6).
