This article from the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics explores factors affecting visits by the American population to farms and the economic value of the rural landscape to farm visitors. It examines on-farm recreation, or agritourism, as a marketed amenity of farms, and examines the market and nonmarket benefits of rural land to visitors, which it estimates at $21.4 billion per year.
