This act is also known as Oregon’s Defensible Space Law. It establishes requirements for property owners pertaining to brush management, such as reducing excess vegetation around structures. It was established to protect lives and property from wildfire related hazards.
It mandates the provision of a complete and coordinated fire protection system within the forestland-urban interface in Oregon for achieving the critical goal of public and property owner education and awareness about wildfire hazards. It also requires the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to assist landowners with accomplishing their fuel reduction obligations.
