Scenic View Protection

The city’s zoning code establishes a Viewshed Protection Overlay Zoning District to protect and enhance scenic views from downtown Cumberland (§10). Design guidelines are incorporated in the zoning district regulations (§6.15.01 et seq.). These guidelines include construction techniques to minimize impacts to landscapes, approaches for roadway construction, and vegetation techniques that contribute to maintaining scenic quality.
