Downtown Revitalization

The village’s zoning code includes a  form-based code to help implement its downtown revitalization plan (§§98-571–613). Code sections address general provisions, regulating framework, street frontages, design standards, administration, and definitions.

Outdoor Lighting

The village’s zoning code addresses outdoor lighting as performance standards (§98-382). The ordinance, based on dark-sky principles, was adopted in 2003 and amended in 2010 and 2013. Lighting permits are required for new lighting fixtures, except for a list of exempted lighting types. The ordinance provides design requirements for lighting fixtures and installations, addresses lighting levels (including measurement methodology) and provides tables of maximum illuminance standards based on levels of activity, standards for auto dealerships, and property lighting limits based on adjacent uses. The ordinance also lists prohibited lighting types.
