Outdoor Lighting

The town’s outdoor lighting ordinance was adopted in 1977 and amended most recently in 1992. It is a simple ordinance but is widely cited as one of the best outdoor lighting ordinances.

The purpose statement highlights the benefits of good nighttime lighting but recognizes the need to provide clear guidelines to eliminate or minimize glare and light trespass to maintain local character.

It offers definitions and addresses luminaire design factors to control glare, while providing for certain exceptions and temporary lighting approvals.
