Outdoor Lighting

The city addresses outdoor lighting in its zoning code in a 2009 ordinance based on dark-sky principles (§16-05). The ordinance’s intent to permit reasonable uses of outdoor lighting for safety and security while minimizing negative impacts of excessive or uncontrolled light.

Standards address minimum and maximum site illumination levels for various site locations, light fixture design and height, and different types of lighting. A photometric plan for site lighting is required. An illustration is included.
