age-friendly communities

This article investigates the relationship between the physical and psychological functioning of older adults and the front entrance architectural features of homes. The authors found that architectural features that encourage direct observation and social interaction, such as front porches and stoops, have a significant direct relationship with physical functioning and an indirect relationship with social support and psychological distress. Requiring developers to incorporate these front entrance features into the design of homes can help make neighborhoods more age-friendly.
