Green Building

The city’s comprehensive plan presents green building as an approach to reducing energy demand and natural resource consumption. It outlines goals for all new public buildings to prescribe to a green building certification system, encourage reuse and rehabilitation for existing buildings, and incorporate green building standards into rehabilitation projects on public buildings (Goal EEC-1.C). It also identifies key metrics and targets for the adoption of green building and green roofs, including all new public buildings receiving a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification level of Silver and all roofs that are appropriate for solar or green roof to be outfitted with one of these options. The comprehensive plan’s definition of green building is integrated with that of green roofs.
