Green Building

This functional plan includes several strategies to promote green building including property tax abatements, new construction requirements, and certification cost refunds. It mentions the Town’s adoption of Energy Star Certified Homes Program as a requirement for new single-family home construction (3.1.1) and recommends the use of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification system for new construction and major renovations (3.1.2). The functional plan also highlights a preexisting regulation that requires new construction of commercial buildings with a floor area over 4,000 square feet attain certification through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system (3.2.1).
