Green Building

The city’s code of ordinances contains a chapter on green building, energy efficiency, and environmental design. It requires construction of or major modifications to a commercial or mixed-use building with a floor area over 7,500 square feet, a public building of any size, five or more single family or attached homes on one lot, or any single-family home over 3,250 square feet to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification (§17.14.040). It also requires projects to submit a LEED score card with their site plans (§17.14.050). The city’s green building policy is intended to mitigate energy usage and environmental impacts, and to promote sustainable development (§17.14.010).
