Green Building

The county’s code of ordinances outlines a green building program that is voluntary for all non-public buildings and mandatory for public buildings. It references Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Green Home Designation Standard, National Green Home, and Green Globes certification systems and programs for new and existing residential, new and existing commercial, and “Green Development” buildings (§6-113). It lists several incentives including expedited permitting, a green building award, and a special green contribution award (§6-114). The county’s green building program also includes education and training opportunities (§6-115).
