Historic Preservation

The city’s unified development code regulates historic preservation procedures and sets design standards (§17.16.010-17.060). It requires a certificate of appropriateness for minor and major alterations to historic structures or structures in historic districts, issued by the Planning & Economic Development Department. The Historic Preservation Commission is tasked with surveying and researching existing structures and reviewing designation applications. Architectural review standards and guidelines for commercial, residential, and new construction development are also included in the code.
