Green Stormwater Infrastructure

The city’s comprehensive plan outlines actions and policies for stormwater management including the use of vegetated swales, tree preservation, and utilizing natural biological systems. It recommends revisions to the Broomfield Municipal Code that encourage the use of vegetated swales instead of storm sewers (Action Step OP-D.1.1), natural biological systems for the treatment of stormwater runoff (Action Step ES-A.2.9), and tree preservation to reduce stormwater flow (Action Step ES-A.4.3). The comprehensive plan emphasizes the community benefits of these strategies and highlights policies to factor community aesthetics (Policy UT-D.2) and natural filtration features (Policy UT-C.1) into the design of detention ponds.
