This article evaluates a well-developed example of civic technology in order to increase understanding of how civic tech platforms are designed and used. The authors use a mixed-methods approach to study FixMyTransport’s success in sending public transit users’ feedback to service providers. The article finds that effective civic tech platforms do increase participation, but complexities need to be addressed for further adoption of this technology, and features to meaningfully engage with users, rather than just document their experiences, should be added.
