This article reviews the possibility of disruptions caused by artificial intelligence in the “smart city” of the future. It suggests that the fields of urban planning and design will be disrupted but not dismantled by AI, and that the field will be augmented by AI moving forward, although planners need to prepare to integrate the technology into existing ways of working.
