Farmland Protection | Food Systems

This briefing paper explores the benefits that farmland preservation efforts in California have to both society and the environment. It discusses agricultural productivity, economic contributions, and food security within the societal benefits of farmland preservation. And it also addresses urban greenhouse gas emissions, farmland greenhouse gas emissions, and carbon sequestration on farmland under the climate benefits of farmland preservation. Furthermore, it gives an overview of farmland conservation initiatives in California, efforts in other U.S. states, and international initiatives.
