Urban Heat Resilience

This functional plan addresses urban heat island effects in its Resilient County Operations section. It gives an overview of how extreme heat events affect the County and provides several recommendations to help the community prepare for times of emergency. It includes actions such as conducting a climate vulnerability assessment of all critical assets and operational functions, enhancing existing emergency communication protocols, assessing the number and distribution of cooling facilities, and ensuring that infrastructure equitably minimizes contributions to urban heat islands. It also includes some metrics and targets to help the County track its progress towards resiliency.
