The revised AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct makes it imperative that planners actively engage in discussing equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED+I). Systemic inequities affecting how and for whom we plan have attracted significant attention in recent years. The Code of Ethics calls on planners to find ways to incorporate ED+I into their daily work; however, without coordinated effort on a larger scale, individual planners may feel unsupported in expanding their ED+I knowledge and skills. Identifying ways to incorporate ED+I principles into work plans can institutionalize commitment to them.
This presentation describes how APA's Connecticut and Florida chapters created Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion programs, work plans, and activities. Each chapter highlights successes, challenges, and lessons learned and explains how it developed a plan that reflects the input and needs of its members and communities. The presentation draws parallels between plans developed for chapters and plans developed for employers.
