Boosting the supply, availability, and diversity of housing options is essential to expanding opportunity and affordability for all. And, as communities aim to create more age-friendly neighborhoods, changes to local plans and codes are usually necessary. Zoning reform has emerged as a key element in tackling today's housing challenges and a major political issue attracting attention and action at all levels of government. Supporting communities in reforming zoning and land use to create a wider range of housing options is a key priority for APA, AARP, and the National League of Cities (NLC).

This conversation among leaders of these organizations will discuss how to improve local capacity, identify critical solutions, and speed reforms that enable communities and developers to work together to produce, preserve, and provide a diverse range of quality housing, including AARP's focus on addressing the housing needs of older adults from Rodney Harrell, and a new Housing Supply Accelerator campaign led by APA and NLC.

Tacoma (WA) Mayor and NLC President Victoria Woodards will detail her administration's "Home in Tacoma" initiative aimed at addressing key housing challenges through better planning and updated regulations. Hear these national housing leaders share their perspectives on innovative approaches, the shifting political environment on housing, and how planners, advocates, and local elected officials can work effectively together.
