Paul Farmer's career has exemplified the importance of leadership, innovation, and implementation in the planning profession. As a practicing planner and leader of the American Planning Association, he has advanced the value placed upon planning in major American cities, academia, and the nation. Inducted in 2006.
Professional Biography
W. Paul Farmer, FAICP, HON ASLA, HON (life) RTPI, HON PIA; former CEO of APA and its professional institute, AICP; three carers in planning: a decade teaching at Cornell University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (founding faculty member of the graduate planning program); two decades in senior management positions as Deputy Planning Director of Pittsburgh, Planning Director of Minneapolis, and, Executive Director of Planning & Development (and several other departments) in Eugene, Oregon; and, almost a decade and a half as CEO of APA and AICP. Interests and activities in the comprehensive outlook of planning, bringing that outlook to issues of hazards, disasters and resilence. Effective planning requires blending visions and pragmatism, collaboartion, leadership and innovation.
